Donald Davis’s relatives are the stars of his stories. You’ve heard about them so often, they’re almost as famous as he is. In this studio, he takes you behind the scenes so you can meet the other folks in his life who helped make him who he is.
Andy Offutt Irwin - The Magic of the New South

Hear Andy Offutt Irwin—self-described cultural anthropologist and seventh-generation Georgia resident—talk about the changing landscape of the New South. With the keen eye of a storyteller, Irwin gleefully observes how Southerners—the real-life equivalents of “recovering racist” Aunt Marguerite—have kept up with the times with mixed results.
Charlie Lucas - Kathryn and the ‘Tin Man’

Kathryn Windham and Charlie ‘Tin Man’ Lucas a renowned folk artist, lived side by side in Selma, Alabama for 10 years. He took her fishing and she taught him how to read. He loved her stores and she loved the sculptures he made out of scrap metal. Hear Lucas reflect on how their mutual admiration turned into a deep friendship that sustained Kathryn through the end of her life.
Jay O’Callahan - Main Street, Jonesborough

Jay O’Callahan spent more than two years developing “Main Street, Jonesborough,” interviewing more than 30 people to make sure he got every detail just right. Hear about the highs and lows of the harrowing process of one storyteller trying to honor more than 200 years’ worth of history in a single story. Note: Jay performs Main Street, Jonesborough, on Saturday of the Festival.
