New DVD featuring storyteller Ray Hicks
Appalachian storytelling legend Ray Hicks is the feature of a new DVD entitled “Ray Hicks and other Beech Mountain Folks.” The DVD contains footage of Hicks and his friends and family in southern Appalachia dating back to the 1970s.
Hicks was among five storytellers who appeared at the inaugural National Storytelling Festival in 1973. He was frequently featured at the festival through 1999. Hicks died in 2003.
The DVD is produced by the Archives of Appalachia, a unit of the Center for Appalachian Studies and Services at East Tennessee State University. It can be purchased at the International Storytelling Center’s gift shop or online via ETSU’s online store.
