New ISC Programming

At the International Storytelling Center we continue to expand our program offerings in order to stay relevant and effective.

One such program is Stories for Change, a series of initiatives to empower at-risk youth within Appalachia to harness the power of story to be the change they wish to see in the world. The workshops and concerts are geared towards helping them overcome barriers. Through exposure to world-class storytelling training and performance, they learn skills that can transform their own lives, help them envision a better place for themselves, and be the story for change in a world where their stories matter.

Stories for Change currently serves over 1,700 underserved youth with tailored workshops, subsidized and affordable children’s concerts, and ISC’s first “Power of Storytelling” Youth Appalachian Summit,  to be held in late 2018, ‘19, and ‘20.

- The Stories for Change program is funded in part by a grant from the East Tennessee Foundation Youth Endowment Fund.

ISC is also busy with StoryVault, ISC’s official podcast, will launch later this year and feature some of our most treasured archival footage from the history of the National Storytelling Festival. We’re digging deep into more than 4,000 hours of recordings that our friends at the American Folklife Center at Library of Congress help us keep safe. It’s one of the largest and most important collections of oral recordings in the world–and we want to make sure that everyone has access to it. Help spread story through a tax-deductible donation today.

ISC wishes to express gratitude to all our educational partnerships, sponsors and individual supporters of these important programs. Click here if you are interested in supporting this important work.
