Meet Jan Magee

Have you ever walked into our gift shop and found yourself admiring the décor? You’re likely looking at the handiwork (and maybe even the personal belongings) of volunteer extraordinaire Jan Magee, who helps us decorate every season.

Jan, a nurse at ETSU’s student health center, moved to the area from North Carolina eight years ago. After she and her husband got settled, she wanted to volunteer to feel more connected with downtown Jonesborough. ISC was a natural match.

Jan tells us, “I started volunteering for the International Storytelling Center in 2014. I was working in the gift shop during storytelling season. Along the way, I realized how much I enjoyed assisting the staff with decorating the shop. It allowed me to use my creative side, which I have always enjoyed as a hobby. Doing flower arrangements and coming up with original ideas has always been fun for me.

“I have found ISC’s friendly staff to have such enthusiasm and strong convictions in what they represent. It is so contagious. That’s part of the reason I believe that volunteers return from season to season. It is rewarding in all aspects, and I feel it is truly a privilege to be part of the volunteer team!”
Thanks so much, Jan, for sharing your time and your story with us.
