Why has ISC decided to cancel the National Storytelling Festival?

ISC has paid close attention to the rapidly changing health guidelines around COVID-19, and we’ve had many discussions about how to safely produce an event that brings together so many people in one place. We concluded that the risks just aren’t tenable. While we’re sad that we won’t meet in Jonesborough this year, our top priority is keeping you, your family, and our communities safe and healthy so we can enjoy many events together in the years to come.


What are my options for the 2020 Festival tickets I have already purchased?

  • You can donate the cost of your ticket(s) to the International Storytelling Center as a tax-deductible contribution. Your contribution will help us get through a difficult year without our main source of revenue. And as a thank you, you’ll receive a complimentary ticket to the digital Festival.
  • You can transfer your ticket(s) to next year’s Festival (October 1-3, 2021). These beautiful Tennessee mountains aren’t going anywhere! Join us for the 2021 National Storytelling Festival, which is sure to be a joyful reunion.
  • You can request a refund. For anyone who can’t donate their tickets or register for next year, we’re happy to process a full refund. Depending on requests, this may take up to six weeks.


What is the deadline for deciding what to do with my 2020 tickets?

Please let us know what you have decided by July 31, 2020. If we don’t hear from you, you will receive a complimentary ticket to the digital festival as well as a letter confirming your tax deductible contribution.


Why should I consider donating my ticket to ISC?

ISC is a nonprofit organization that relies on donations and ticket sales from our programs to cover all year-round operational costs. Your donation will support ISC’s year-round outreach efforts, including community work, support of at-risk youth, educational programming, staffing, and more.  


What if I can only donate a portion of my ticket(s)? 

Please note your request in as much detail as possible in the special request box on the form. Our registration specialist will ensure your request is handled and will follow-up with a confirmation e-mail.


Will I be recognized for my donation?
Yes, as a thank you to patrons who are willing to go above and beyond for the Festival by donating their tickets, ISC will send you a complimentary ticket to the digital Festival, as well as special recognition in the Festival section of our website. 


When will I receive confirmation of my choice?  

If you choose to donate your ticket(s), you’ll receive an e-mail confirmation regarding your donation. We’ll send a link to access the digital Festival closer to the event date. 

If you choose to transfer your ticket(s), you’ll receive an e-mail confirmation once the transfer is complete. 

If you choose a refund, those will be processed as received, a process that could take 4 to 6 weeks. We appreciate your patience. 


What if I can’t attend the digital Festival during the first weekend in October? 

No worries! We’ll make sure you can access the content for up to 7 days after the event. 


Are more details available for the digital Festival?

Not yet! Plans are underway, and we expect to give you all the details this summer. Thanks for your patience.


What about the 2021 Festival?

The 2021 National Storytelling Festival will take place in Jonesborough on October 1-3 as usual. We can’t wait to welcome you back!
