Application to Perform:

Each year, approximately 20 featured storytellers are selected to appear throughout the National Storytelling Festival weekend. Tellers who have previously been featured at the Festival may have up to six (6) hours of individual performance time. “New Voices” – tellers featured for first time – may have up to three and a half (3.5) hours of performance time. An extensive repertoire for featured tellers is required.

  • Each teller receives an honorarium, travel, lodging, and meals during the event.
  • Those interested in performing should submit an application along with recordings and other supporting materials. Materials cannot be returned. There are no submission deadlines as the selection of yearly rosters is an ongoing process.
  • Applications remain active for five (5) years; during that period, artists may update their file as often as they desire.
  • Those selected to perform as Featured Tellers will receive a letter of invitation. Applicants who are not chosen will not be notified, but will be re-considered for future programming.
