ISC is delighted to announce the historic Jackson Theatre as a Festival venue for select ticketed events at the 2025 National Storytelling Festival.
The open-air tents and the bustling crowds are essential to the National Storytelling Festival experience. But we know there might be times when folks long for a break — perhaps a snack, a little air conditioning, and a more comfortable seat.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of the ticketed concerts and storytelling studios in the Jackson this year:
The ISC Legacy Series presents John Borling: Major General John Borling was a prisoner of war in Vietnam. While he was captive, he created (and memorized) poems that he shared with his fellow prisoners using a secret tap code. Major Borling will discuss his poems and his experience with storyteller Sam Payne. (Friday, October 3, at 4 p.m. and Saturday, October 4, at 2:30 p.m., $20)
After Hours with Kevin Kling and Simone Perrin: Close out the day with heartfelt stories and songs as Festival fan favorite Kevin Kling partners with “accordionista” Simone Perrin for a one-of-a-kind performance. (Friday, October 3, and Saturday, October 4, at 9:30 p.m., $20)
The Peanut Man with Carmen Deedy: Join award-winning children’s author Carmen Agra Deedy as she shares her story of a Cuban refugee and her joy in an unexpected encounter that connects her beloved home in Havana with her new home in Atlanta. This was the first story of the first set of the first appearance at the National Storytelling Festival by Carmen in 1995. A Q&A with the artist will follow the show. (Saturday, October 4, at 10 a.m., $20)
Donald Davis & Sons: The iconic storyteller celebrates his eighth decade with a rare interview conducted by his sons. (Saturday, October 4, at 1 p.m., $20)
This historic venue is new to us, but not new: its (first) grand opening was in 1945. After a prolonged closure, the Jackson was recently renovated and reopened; it celebrated its 80th anniversary in August.
The Jackson Theatre is located on Main Street, across from the International Storytelling Center. During the rest of the year, it serves as a space for films, concerts, and other special events. We hope to see you there!
