ISC has many ways you can help share the power of storytelling. Your gift makes the power of storytelling accessible to new listeners by giving access to the National Storytelling Festival possible. You can help us digitize our archives of storytelling material from cultural traditions across the globe, allowing us to share storytelling as a way of seeing our past, present, and future with people everywhere. You can even support our community programs that bring storytelling skills and techniques to the people and places that need them most for use in their everyday lives. How will you share storytelling with the world.
The Merle Davis Fund
ISC is celebrating the life of Merle Davis, beloved arts administrator and devoted audience member of the National Storytelling Festival. Named for the late wife of storyteller Donald Davis, the Merle Davis Story Listener Fund honors the life of a story connoisseur who understood how important it is to be a good listener. The scholarship will cover registration fees and a travel stipend for special listeners to attend the National Storytelling Festival in October.
Community Programming
Storytelling isn’t just for professional performers. It’s for everyone. ISC organizes a range of programs and efforts in the “applied storytelling” field, which all explore storytelling at work in the real world. We know that stories support health and wellness, promote institutional change, and address real-world challenges.
The National Storytelling Festival
As a Friend of the Festival, your investment will help stage this year’s event and ensure the continuity of this economic driver for the region. Moreover, the Festival provides support for ISC’s year-round programming, including our expanded youth initiative that reached over 3,500 young people and at-risk students in the last year alone.
Storytelling Live!
Storytelling Live!, the Center’s renowned Teller-in-Residence (TIR) series, a one-of-a-kind storytelling program for residents and visitors of Northeast Tennessee’s communities. Beginning in May, the Storytelling Live! series includes master storytellers from around the U.S. and abroad who spend week-long residencies in Jonesborough, TN.
