Kathyrn Tucker Windham

Master storyteller, author of 24 books, playwright, accomplished photographer, popular public television and radio personality, and trail-blazing journalist, Windham passed away on June 12, 2011 at the age of 93. A legend in the storytelling community, Windham first appeared at the National Storytelling Festival in 1974 – only the event’s second year.  Windham, whose stories were as Southern as the voice that told them, quickly became a favorite of storytelling audiences nationwide. A regular contributor to National Public Radio’s All Things Considered, Windham’s appearances won her national acclaim.  Windham was also the recipient of the prestigious Alabama Humanities Award and the Storytelling Circle of Excellence and Lifetime Achievement awards.
