Lake Hopson

Mingo County, KY resident, Lake Hopson, holds a unique place in today’s world. At one hundred and four years old, she is one of only a handful of people who can offer a firsthand account of both the 1918 Spanish influenza pandemic and that of the current COVID-19 outbreak. While the long-retired teacher and principal from Kentucky admits she was only a toddler in 1918, that period is clearly seared into her memory, which she is able to relay in vivid detail.
