Oba William King

Oba

Known as The Poetic Storyteller, Oba William King is a motivator, educator, and an irresistible teller whose energetic storytelling performances are designed to celebrate diversity.  A member of the National Association of Black Storytellers, he tours nationally presenting his dynamic programs that include song and traditional drum. Oba counts his visit to Benin West Africa, in the village of Apolydaho, as the most significant influence to his process and path of becoming a storyteller. The founder of JUSTUSarts Educational Entertainment, he is an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Award recipient in Traditional Folk Arts. King’s appearances include the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library, the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage Family Story Night, and the Charleston Tells Storytelling Festival.

“Students and adults are engaged and inspired by Oba.”  – Robert Eriksen, Sun Foundation
